Yesterday, July 4th was a big day here in Nebraska. For further evidence just see the picture of our local granddaughter Livy (short for Olivia) nestled up against Grandma after a fun filled 4th of July. Livy fought a surprising fight against Mr. Sandman but in the end the evidence speaks for itself. You can’t hear it but she is actually sleeping to the sound of neighborhood fireworks in the near distance.
Grandchildren are the crown of the aged.. (Proverbs 17:6)
Grandmas are pretty special too.
I have also included a video of something my sweet wife dearly loves to witness. The lighting of the fireflies across the lawn in the summertime. I shot this as we were sitting on our front porch. The video is a little grainy, but the fireflies can easily been seen.

Seems like everytime we blog about our dear little angel, we have a picture of her sleeping. Just so everyone knows, she sleeps because we wear her out with fun! Yeah, that’s right – we aren’t boring people! Grandpa, some video of her fun times, please!
You know how I love fireflies. They just fascinate me! God has such a marvelous sense of design. Gotta give those Nat’l Geo. guys credit, cuz I’ve never been able to catch them in a still shot! Funny, our street is normally quiet – even with living on a state highway – but it’s really noisy on your video! Must of been a Saturday when you recorded that, when all the teens were doing the square!
Love you. Thanks for sharing the lightening bugs with me!

Rib,
Pictures or video of Livy not sleeping. I got it. I’m sure with her walking now, the video will be of you chasing her. LOL!
Those Nat’l Geo guys have the most excellent camera equipment. That is how they capture those stills of fireflies.
Anytime would be grand for sharing fireflies/lightning bugs with you. Love u 2.

Hi Barry —
Thanks for your post! I took your advice about loosening comment restrictions; didn’t even know about this, so thank you.
I needed some time to sort out my thoughts, but have finally posted my own blog entry on The Shack. I hope you take a look. It’s at http://amydeardon.blogspot.com/2008/07/shack.html
Your granddaughter is so precious!

Lovely picture…must be cool to be grandparents! Lord willing (I know I am!) we’ll be grandparents, but it will be some years from now…my oldest is 10.
BTW, The kids had fun catching fireflies on the fourth but we tried to make sure that they were released.

Ah, yes the firefly catch and release. I remember those days.
Thank you brother Leo.
