About

Welcome to Upon This Rawk!

My name is Barry and the blog title refers to the title to a Larry Norman album title. I changed the spelling of rock to match my usual spelling “Rawk”. Yes, I am a geek and I have spelled it this way since the band Thousand Foot Krutch released a song called “Rawkfist“.

I live in a small town near Omaha, Nebraska with my wife Robin. We are technically empty-nesters, although a few of our six children have returned home for a short spell. I also have six grand-kids. I love music and most things technical. I am computer software professional with many years of IT experience.

First and foremost I am a slave to Christ. I have been bought for a price. The price was God’s own son, and the price was paid on the cross. He lived the life and paid the debt I could not. I love my wife and family. I am learning over the years that God really does mean it when He commands me to love my wife as Christ loves the church and gave Himself up for her (Ephesians 5:25-33). I am learning to love my bride like that, as God graces me with each new day. God wakes me up each day so that I can serve and glorify Him. It is my desire to serve Him and enjoy each day that is given to me. God created me unique to glorify and I serve Him. I serve Him by serving my wife and family, studying His word, and working as a software developer to provide for my family.

This blog site is dedicated to Jesus Christ and seeing Him proclaimed through the written word. It is my desire to use this site as a means to communicate and journal my thoughts, interests, activities, and to encourage those who might stop by and read. It is my own personal challenge to try and add something to this and other blog sites each day. I love to dialog about our Lord. So please stop by and sit a spell and leave some comments of encouragement or insight and I will be blessed by it.

    Great Site

I sat and read for awhile. My wife and I listened to the music you linked on your current post. We’ve never heard of this band; we both liked it. We are in Phoenix and are raising 2 children of our own.

    Great site, Thx

    Amanda,

Welcome to the world of BarryDean4Christ. I appreciate the comments. I am happy that you read so much of it. Especially since its coming from my oldest daughter. I first created it as kind of a self sounding board. Then not long ago one of the pastors at our church who has a great blog site called Irish Calvinist put a link to my site on his site. Now I get more comments from folks I have never met before, engaging in conversations about Christ and theology. It is a very cool side bonus.
Thanks for stopping by and checking it out.

    Love,

    Dad

I believe that God would be pleased with your blog, but can Comcast offer uncapped internet usage in Heaven, and will cables stretch that far? Just wondering, Jeff

Nice blog. I’ve been a long-time reader of Irish Calvinist, but just wandered over here for the first time today, and have enjoyed reading some of your thoughts. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the time and effort in putting your blog up. I am a missionary in Alaska. Thanks for putting up some interesting things. I remember going through Nebraska in 1977, the Lord needs us where we are.

    Barry?

I’d like to point out the Solomon’s website has several blank pages. It’s not professionally designed, it appears to be in a wordpress format. I visited their website a while back and it wasn’t on the same system as it is now, which leads me to believe they haven’t filled in all their information yet. I do not attend Solomon’s Porch, but I know people who do and would identify myself as emergent, and most people within the emergent conversation have very definite beliefs on the nature of the local church. I’d be happy to speak more on these if you like. But I wouldn’t interpret a lack of content on a website as a lack of belief on the subject.

    God bless!

People like you make me ashamed to be Christian. It’s unlimited access to the internet allowing people such as yourself to post their close minded “nobody else can be right” views that is destroying this beautiful world that God created. Your thoughts can only be called “anti-intellectual”. Keep these 1200AD thoughts to yourself.

Barry Dean, (if it really is?)
I started this blog to dialog with those who desire to understand God and His will. I have never pretended to have all the answers. I am a student of theology myself. To the best of ability I maintain true to the doctrine about God and His creation that is found in the biblical text. If you would like to discuss at least a point in particular that you disagree with, I welcome that. But instead I see you would rather resort to personal attacks in a general sense. I thank God every day for the historical doctrines and biblical absolutes. I find them much more in line with who God is than any of the liberal minded, post-modern schools of thought taught in many churches today. One last thing – I have always found it amazing that the ones who attack have no open forum like a blog to express their own thoughts and dialog with others. I challenge you to take some courage and start your own “intellectual” blog.

    Barry Dean,
I appreciate your devotion to Christ. May our lives only glorify Him! I ran across your website when looking for a picture of a potter making a vessel-to use in our monthly church publication for which I am an associate editor. You have a very nice picture of a potter making a vessel. Could I have your permission to use it? Thank you very much, and God bless you.
